Daily Ephesus Tour

Daily Ephesus Tour The major reason for visiting Kusadasi: eyeballing the vast ruins of Ephesus, the ancient Greek city. Kusadasi became a major port — claiming 250,000 residents during the 2nd and 3rd centuries A.D. — in the Roman Empire. About 27-square-miles of awesome, excavated ruins lure visitors past houses, shops, a tavern, a bordello, columns, and even to the toilets, whose rows of cutouts in long marble slabs above mosaic floors provided businessmen places to socialize. Ephesus Cruise Port Excursions

The iconic façade of the libraryof Celsus, Ephesus Day Tour completed about 125 A.D., displays intricately carved columns and pediments. The library could store 12,000 papyrus scrolls in niches, read through slots. Despite earlier destruction, it was rebuilt in the 20th century. Tours Kusadasi

Tours Kusadasi 1100 A.D.: A troop of Crusaders stops at a muddy little village in Asia Minor. Their leader looks around. Confused he dismounts. This place is not what he expected. He read in the ancient texts that this was a large seaport with many ships docked in its bay. It isn’t. The sea is almost three miles away. The village is located in a swamp. There are no ships to be seen. The leader accosts a nearby man. İstanbul shore excursion

“It was called that once. Now it is named Ayasalouk.” “Well, where is your bay? Where are the trading ships? And where is the magnificent Greek temple that we have heard about?” Now it is the man’s turn to be confused. “Temple? What temple, Sir? We have no temple here…”

And so 800 years after its destruction, the magnificent Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, had been completely forgotten by the people of the town that had once held it in such pride. Private Ephesus Tours

And there is no doubt that the temple was indeed magnificent. “I have seen the walls and Hanging Gardens of ancient Babylon,” wrote Philon of Byzantium, “the statue of Olympian Zeus, the Colossus of Rhodes, the mighty work of the high Pyramids and the tomb of Mausolus. But when I saw the temple at Ephesus rising to the clouds, all these other wonders were put in the shade.” Tours Kusadasi

Board your coach and head to the lovely Town of Sirince (pronounced as she-RIN-jay); a wonderful little Aegean village of 600 inhabitants. Ephesus Tours It is located in the hills at about 1000 feet above sea level. Most of the houses in the village date from the 19th century or earlier and were built at a time when Sirince was predominantly a Greek village. The village lies in a lovely bowl of hills surrounded by peach orchards, vineyards and olive groves. Ephesus Shore Tours The higher hills are covered with pine forest. Nearly all houses command a pastoral panorama extending over many miles, undisturbed by any modern development. Farming remains the principal activity. Villagers make wine and olive oil, and grow some of the best peaches in the country. After exploring the village of Sirince you’ll travel through the small town of Selcuk, dominated by its gray stone Byzantine fortress, en route to the Temple of Artemis, built in honor of the Greek goddess of hunting, wild nature, and fertility. Deemed as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Artemis used to be the largest marble temple in the ancient Greek world since it was four times as big as the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Ephesus Shore Excursions

The house of Virgin Mary is a typical Roman architectural example, entirely made of stones. In the 4th century AD, a church, combining her house and grave, has been built. The original two-stored house, which consisted of an anteroom (where today candles are proposed), bedroom and praying room (Christian church area) and a room with fireplace (chapel for Muslims). A front kitchen fell into ruins and has been restored in 1940’s. Today, only the central part and a room on the right of the altar are open to visitors. From there one can understand that this building looks more like a church than a house. ephesus tours turkey Another interesting place is the “Water of Mary”, a source to be found at the exit of the church area and where a rather salt water, with curative properties, can be drunk by all. ephesus tours turkey
